The Water Agency Chooses River Transport in Lyon
24th May 2024
Friday, May 24, 2024, in Lyon, the Rhône Mediterranean Corsica Water Agency celebrated the arrival by river of the new facades for the building of its Lyon headquarters. The choice of river transport was an obvious one for this project, which aims to reduce its environmental footprint.
The Zulu05 will make several deliveries for its client Serfim Recyclage as part of this project led by Léon Grosse: the Sogestran Logistics unit will handle the removal of construction waste and the transportation of the new facades.
A virtuous project in which river transport plays a key role
The Water Agency is replacing the envelope of its building to reduce its environmental footprint. This energy renovation project aims to reduce the building’s energy consumption by 50%. All current facades, made of glass and metal, will be replaced with a prefabricated wood-framed facade from the Techniwood factory in Haute-Savoie.
River transport finds its place in this virtuous chain, which also includes:
- The recycling and reuse of deconstruction materials
- The use of a local factory for the prefabrication of the new facades
- The use of wood from sustainably managed forests in Haute-Loire
River transport: an ecological and strategic choice
River transport allows for the movement of bulky items in a massified manner, thus avoiding the passage of 90 trucks through Lyon’s Low Emission Zone (LEZ). The benefits are multiple:
- Reduction of CO2 emissions
- Reduction of urban congestion
- Facilitated access, promoting smoother logistics
We thank Voies Navigables de France, a partner in this virtuous initiative.
