CUILLER FRERES Chooses River Transport for a Sustainable Construction Site in Boulogne-Billancourt
Working on the renovation of façades and the roof extension of a building in Boulogne-Billancourt, CUILLER FRERES opted for river transport to deliver its wooden construction elements to the site. This deliberate and committed choice allowed them to reduce CO₂ emissions by a factor of five for this project.
The Challenge:
A construction site located in the heart of a densely populated residential area with difficult access—but close to the Seine.
The Commitment:
CUILLER FRERES is dedicated to sustainable construction, using wooden extensions, French timber, skilled labor, and traditional expertise.
The Solution:
In partnership with Sogestran Logistics, a river-based logistics chain was established to efficiently transport construction elements while minimizing the carbon footprint.
Operational Process:
The goods are loaded at CUILLER FRERES’ workshops in Petit-Couronne (76) into a 40’ Flat (PTSA) container, specially designed for transporting materials. They are then transported by truck to the Port of Rouen. From there, river transport begins, connecting Rouen to Gennevilliers.
At Gennevilliers, a key step involves transferring the materials directly from the container onto the ZULU 03 barge, designed for urban transport. The barge then begins the final leg of its journey, delivering the goods by river transport to the Port of Boulogne-Billancourt, just a few hundred meters from the construction site.
The goods are collected directly by the client at the Port of Boulogne-Billancourt, successfully completing this smooth and efficient logistics operation.
The Results:
Positive impacts: Reduced CO₂ emissions, lower noise pollution, and less road congestion.
A big congratulations to the Sogestran Logistics teams for this exemplary operation, proving that river transport is a sustainable and efficient alternative for demanding projects!
