Discovering the Role of a Multimodal Manager
20th November 2024
As part of the job profiles carried, we met Damien, multimodal manager of Logi Ports Shuttle and Nord Ports Shuttle.
Hello Damien, can you explain your activity within Sogestran Logistics?
I am responsible for multimodal transport. With my team of 5 people, we organize transport operations between seaports and inland ports. We select carriers, on behalf of our customers, and optimize logistics by creating load plans. We then ensure that operations run smoothly.
We cover three areas: the Seine and the Rhône (Logi Ports Shuttle) and the North (Nord Ports Shuttle).
Our main customers are shipping companies. This is a real challenge, because we sell transport services to experts who are experts in this sector themselves.
What is your professional background?
My career path is quite eclectic. During the first part of my professional life, I experimented with different activities: a master’s degree in environmental law, a position in a community of communes, then a warehouse handler contract and finally the management of a restaurant for 6 years.
It was around the age of 30 that my path specialized in logistics with a position as team leader in a company that offered me the opportunity to pursue a master’s degree in logistics, which brought me back to school. Since then, I have accumulated several experiences as a commission agent before joining Sogestran.
What do you like about your job?
Due to our position, our added value for the customer lies in the quality of our service . However, many risks can affect the service: a customs problem blocking a container, the unavailability of handlers on the quay or even a lack of capacity. There is no routine.
It is exhilarating to seek solutions for our clients. We must be responsive and persistent in order to minimize the impact of financial risks related to the service.
